5,0 de 5 estrellas Excellent Drive, Especially for an aging laptop.
Alright, I will be posting speed results and concerns with this drive, but I want to address one concern I had when reading other reviews first.
-------------Important Note!!
Some have given this drive a poor rating because if the SSD portion of the drive fails or you cannot boot windows successfully, you will not be able to copy the data off the 1TB platter drive due to not having the necessary drivers loaded. While this is true, this should not be a concern. If you are not already backing up your data to an external source on a regular basis, then you are ASKING to lose data, irregardless of what storage type you are using. Waiting until you have issues with a drive to try an access to back up your data is just a dumb move -- back up regularly. So those peoples concerns are totally void. This drive is backed by a 5 year warranty, and probably won't fail anyways. But EVERYTHING has a chance of failure, so relying on something just because it is new or a bit expensive is asking for loss. Back up regularly, and not being able to access the 1TB platter from outside of Windows with the loaded drivers should not be a concern. In fact, this seems to help with security of your personal files in my opinion.
-------------Why I got this drive
Now I bought this drive to breath life into an aging HP Elitebook 8730W workstation laptop with an Intel Core 2 Extreme, 4 GB of ram, and Quadro 2700M 512 MB. I would have gone with a 500 GB SSD, but my laptop only has SATA 3, so I figured the bus limitation would be a waste when trying to use a faster SSD. This drive seemed like a very good alternative, and the speeds many were reporting were around 300 MB/s max on read, and around 200 MB/s or so for read in their systems.
-------------Important Drive Facts
This drive is two drives in one, so the drivers you install to get the 1TB platter to show and run are probably SATA interface drivers, although I have not confirmed this. The two drives share ONE SINGLE SATA connection, since it functions just like a traditional drive or SSD. So the SSD and HDD have to share a single port on a computer, almost like the drive is running on a built-in SATA hub. Surprisingly, this drive works great -- this sort of trick WD has used does not effect performance or stability at all. I had no issues with the driver install, and I received the drive less than 10 hours ago and am currently writing this review from the system in which it was installed. I put all personal files and my Google Drive folder on the 1TB platter, and will use the SSD for just the OS and applications (as any user using this drive should, it is the most optimal configuration, in my opinion).
In my system, running Windows 7 Enterprise x64 on a brand new clean install on the SSD, I get the following speeds...

When comparing the SSD speeds to some faster drives, you won't see anything special here. It is faster, but not even close to an SSD. Also, I am pretty sure this drive would be much faster on a full speed SATA 6 port. So my speeds for the SSD drive to not fully reflect the speeds it is capable of. I have seen reported speeds online of up to 325 MB/s read and 200 MB/s write. For a SATA 3 limitation though, the speeds I got are very good, especially when compared against the 5 year old failing 250 GB HDD that was only getting about 30 MB/s read/write, which forced me to upgrade and restore files from backups to this drive.
-------------Issues with Windows freezing/locking up, read this!!!!
Lastly, I did have one issue with the drive. I tried to pull some files off my old HDD by using the included SATA to USB cable. Although the drive seemed to power up, I could not access my files, probably due to the fact that my drive was failing (bad sectors). However, for some reason the 1TB platter in the WD Black2 seemed to freak out while my other drive was plugged in. I would hear the platter going nuts inside my drive, as well as hearing the heads parking a lot and clicking as well. Windows also kept locking up. I do not know if this is simply because my other drive is bad, or if having the external drive plugged in was taking enough power from USB to cause the WD platter to have a power drain or what. I forced shut down, and completely removed the USB ports from my laptop, and the issue went away 100%. I have two other external USB drives plugged in, no issues (both are WD 1TB My passports). If you have an issue where you think your Black2 might be bad, try unplugging your old drive to troubleshoot first, especially if your old HDD is failing or old. This DOES NOT seem to be an issue with normal functioning drives, but I wanted to mention this to others, as I almost RMA'ed this drive thinking the HDD was bad until I unplugged my old drive and found it was the culprit while plugged in via the included USB to SATA connector that came with the Black2....
I would not recommend this drive to someone with more than one SATA slot in their laptop, or someone with a full SATA 6 port who can afford a decently sized SSD. But for an older laptop like mine, or if you really need the extra 1TB of room, this drive is great. It might also be good for someone on a budget, as the speed/performance of this drive should be more than sufficient for the average user.
I will post a later review in about a month. I will later enable Bitlocker drive encryption on both the SSD and HDD for security reasons and will post new read/write speeds in the updated review, as well as the overall performance of the drive. Also, feel free to ask any questions.
---------------05/05/2014 UPDATE-------------------------
Hasn't been a month yet, but I wanted to finish the review now and address a few important things about the drive.
First, the speeds. I have noticed a HUGE speed improvement from my old drive. Even though the SSD portion of this drive is not as fast as some SSD's, this is still a very good SSD. And the whole argument with 5400 vs 7200 RPM drives is garbage -- smaller 5400 RPM drives like this get the same speeds as 7200 RPM desktop drives because of the smaller platter size, that's why the 1 TB portion gets 100 MB/s read and write. If you can get a real SSD, do it. If you only have one drive bay though and need space, this is an amazing drive for what it is.
I did have some concerns with drive noise on the platter. My laptop sits a few feet away from my bed at night and is on at all times. The drive would click a lot and made a lot of noise when it should not have, even when I checked to make sure nothing was accessing the disk! When I did a firmware upgrade to the latest version, v5865, from the WD website, the issue went away. I recommend downloading the firmware update and running it as soon as you get the drive. If you download and prepare a USB drive before receiving the new drive, you can perform the firmware upgrade BEFORE installing anything onto this new drive -- I highly recommend this. Just download the archive from the WD website and follow the instructions in the included .PDF file before removing your old drive if you can -- I was able to do the whole flash in about 5-6 minutes from the initial download to being back into Windows after the upgrade.
No issues otherwise. Drive has performed flawlessly. When the platter goes to sleep, it takes maybe 8/10ths of a second for it to spin up and allow data to load. That's pretty fast for a platter, it opens 1080p videos almost instantly. The SSD has also performed well, giving me no issues with startups. Program installs never acted strange, the SSD really feels like an SSD should, even if it's on the slower side. Window 7 boots pretty fast. My desktop would load past the boot screen before the colored orbs could even merge together, but this drive takes about 5-6 seconds longer than that. Not bad, considering my desktop is a $1900 water cooled overclocked gaming rig that gets 544 MB/s read and 491 MB/s write on it's SSD.
Now, here are my new speed tests. You will notice a pretty big slow down already when comparing my results, but that is because I have BitLocker AES 256 Bit encryption enabled. My processor does NOT support hardware encryption acceleration via the hardware like modern processors often do (Modern i3, i5, i7's), so when using AES encryption on older processors you get a pretty big hit on read/write rates. In my own tests using an i5-3570k processor in my gaming desktop however, I never saw ANY slowdown with BitLocker. The speeds maybe changed - or + less than 0.5% vs no encryption!
So again, these speeds are not a reflection of the speeds you can get with this drive, these are just my results with encryption enabled on a aging system, with a SATA 3 GB/s interface instead of a 6 GB/s system.
Here are the updated speeds:

Great drive. You can tell they built this with quality, even the packaging is nice. The cable provided is nice for transferring from any HD to a new HD.
I use a mac, but the online set up instructions for mac worked great, only had a small issue trying to get the computer to locate the new drive to transfer, but googled it and Mavericks had a good way to boot up and make usre it recognizes the drive.
Great product, it increased my computer speed by about 10 x's on startup and shut down, as well as application loading

Clonato il disco, l'ho sostituito all'originale.

XPとWin8(64bit)のデュアルブート環境です。
